New Jersey Auto Retail Intelligence · Updated July 2026

The briefing for people who run stores.

Dealership workflows that actually hold, what's moving in New Jersey auto retail this month, and the new metal headed to showrooms — written from the F&I desk by James Lopez, an automotive Finance & Business Manager in Central New Jersey.

01 — Operations

Workflows that run a store

The four systems every well-run New Jersey dealership has in common — each shown in full, with sample data, in the Playbook.

Accountability

The daily activity board

Calls, appointments set, confirmed, shows, writes, delivered — pulled automatically from the CRM every night, per rep, no self-reporting. The morning meeting runs on the board, not on opinions. See a sample board →

The Weekend

The Saturday standard

Minimum two confirmed appointments per salesperson every Saturday — reconfirmed by Friday 6 PM. A miss triggers a Friday-night coaching session, not a shrug. Saturdays are won on Thursday and Friday. See the tracker →

Goal Setting

The goal cascade

A 120-unit month means nothing to a rep until it's translated into today: units to writes to shows to confirmed appointments to quality calls per day. The math connects the month to the morning — and recalculates itself. See the math →

Cash Flow

Funding-first compliance

F&I menu to 100% of customers, e-contract plus paper signing on every deal, same-day packaging, contracts in transit measured in hours — with OFAC, Red Flags, and TILA followed cold. Funding is priority one. See the checklist →

02 — This Month in NJ Auto Retail

What's moving in New Jersey · July 2026

  • NJ CAR launches "Local Matters." The New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers kicked off a statewide campaign in early July making the case for the franchise system — roughly 550 dealerships supporting 75,000-plus jobs — as direct-to-consumer models push for ground. Desk take: community roots are becoming a competitive weapon; stores that live them win the argument locally.
  • Captive lenders crack down on brokered deals. The finance arms of Toyota/Lexus and Mazda notified New Jersey dealers this spring that leases and sales involving brokers won't be purchased — and inadvertently funded brokered deals must be bought back. Desk take: know your buyer, document the deal, and keep the jacket clean. This is exactly why compliance-stickler F&I pays.
  • The FTC keeps the pressure on. Federal scrutiny of dealership transactions remains intense, and NJ CAR is pushing regulators to hold unlicensed brokers to the same advertising standards dealers face. Desk take: stores with disciplined, documented processes have nothing to fear from an audit — the rest should worry.
  • NJ dealers post serious economic numbers. NJ CAR's 2026 Economic Impact Study credits the state's franchised dealers with roughly $2.1 billion in state and local taxes and about $26 million a year in charitable giving. Desk take: auto retail is still the strongest slice of New Jersey's retail economy — a good industry to build a career and a store in.
  • Stellantis softness weighs on store values. Mid-July trade reporting ties the brand group's sales slump to pressure on dealership valuations while retailers wait on the product revival. Desk take: when the front end tightens, the back end and fixed ops carry the store — F&I discipline matters most in the lean quarters.

    03 — Brand Watch

    New metal headed for showrooms

  • Toyota RAV4 — redesigned. The volume king of the compact SUV segment gets its next generation, and every store in a Toyota market should expect the traffic. High-velocity nameplates like this are where appointment discipline turns into delivered units.
  • Subaru Outback — biggest restyle in its history. A boxier, more traditional SUV profile and a new 12.1-inch multimedia system headline the redesign — a conquest opportunity for AWD-country New Jersey.
  • Mercedes-Benz — a loaded 2026 slate. New CLA, a reimagined GLB in five- and seven-passenger form with hybrid and electric powertrains, and S-Class updates keep the luxury desk busy.
  • Stellantis — product on the way. A refreshed Chrysler Pacifica debuted for the 2027 model year at the New York show alongside an all-new Ram ProMaster City — the revival the network has been waiting on.
  • EVs — turbulent but not stalled. Adoption has cooled and incentives have thinned, yet roughly 33 electric models are still tracked to debut or reach U.S. dealers in 2026 — including electric versions of the BMW X5 and Lexus ES. Stores that master EV financing conversations now own that customer later.
  • Model information summarized from manufacturer announcements and automotive press, 2026. Always verify current specs and availability with the factory.
